Want to help us raise awareness about Hyperacusis? There are many different ways you can help.

SEO Optimization:

Unfortunately there is so much inaccurate and harmful information about hyperacusis that comes up at the top of search results, while new research that is being done by Hyperacusis Research, often doesn’t appear at all. This means that when medical professionals, parents/family/friends, etc. go to learn about hyperacusis and how or how to help someone with it they see websites promoting “Gradual Sound Exposure,” “Sound Therapy” “Desensitization” or “Reduce Using Hearing Protection.” Taking this approach causes severe long lasting physical pain in those with pain hyperacusis (noxacusis.) We need people who are good with technology and would like to volunteer to SEO optimize the websites of Hyperacusis Research, Hyperacusis Central, and this website. So that patients, families, and professionals have easy access to more accurate and safe information about hyperacusis in internet searches. If this is something you think you can help with, please email: hyperacusis.awareness@gmail.com (Note, unfortunately we are unable to offer payment. This is a purely volunteer task.

Indirect SEO Optimization (no tech experience needed)

One of the ways search engines decide what to put at the top is based on how many times people click on a website or research article. (The catch 22 is that research at the bottom of search results often doesn’t get clicked on so its moved even further down.) One way to help this information get closer to the top is by clicking the links of medical articles under the medical RESEARCH page of this website. Share the articles with others and ask them to read+share. (Note, you’ll need to actually spend a few minutes reading the articles and ask others to spend a few minutes reading them. The search engines can tell when a bunch of people just “click” on a link to change/improve the algorithm.)
